Product Overview

Our permanent-grade cold mix asphalt is engineered for lasting pothole repairs in all weather conditions. Unlike traditional hot mix, it requires no heating and can be applied in wet or freezing conditions. The specially formulated binder ensures strong adhesion to the existing pavement and cures to a durable, traffic-ready surface.

Application

  1. Clean — Remove all loose material and standing water from the pothole. Square edges for best results.
  2. Fill — Pour cold mix directly from the bag. Overfill by 25–30% to allow for compaction.
  3. Compact — Compact in 50–75 mm lifts using a hand tamper or vibratory plate. Crown slightly above surrounding pavement.
  4. Open — Traffic-ready immediately after compaction. No curing time required.

How Cold Mix Strength Develops

Unlike hot mix asphalt, which gains strength as it cools, cold mix asphalt gains strength through a gradual process of solvent evaporation and binder curing:

  1. Initial Compaction — When compacted, the material is plastic and flows into irregular cavity shapes, filling all voids.
  2. Solvent Evaporation — Over 5–7 days, the solvent in the binder gradually evaporates under traffic and air exposure. The binder thickens, aggregate interlock increases, and void content decreases.
  3. Full Cure — After approximately one month, the material reaches its full design strength — comparable to or exceeding hot mix asphalt performance.

This two-stage strength formation (binder cohesion + aggregate interlock) gives cold mix its unique ability to be stored for months yet perform like hot mix once placed and compacted.
